About the Role:


We're seeking a Research and Innovation Engineer to join our team. In this role, you'll play a pivotal part in driving forward our self-funded research initiative, HTS+, which focuses on developing innovative structural techniques and technologies with a sustainability emphasis.

Responsibilities:

  • Engage in research, testing, and development of complex or innovative structural concepts to uphold our position as industry leaders.
  • Collaborate with internal teams on HTS+ and Best Practice projects, contributing to the expansion of our knowledge base and service offerings.
  • Conduct research on construction materials, supply chains, sustainability, and circularity, and effectively communicate findings both internally and externally.
  • Foster partnerships with academic institutions for experimentation and testing, exploring areas such as composite materials and timber dynamics.

Civil Engineer (Manchester)

  • Highway, pavement design and ground modelling experience is beneficial but not essential;

  • Knowledge of design software such as WinDes (Microdrainage), Civil 3D, and the use of BIM.

  • Keeping areas clean and clear of clutter
  • Ordering couriers, taxis
  • Liaising with security company for weekend cover if required
  • Arranging couriers/travel

Project Accountant

As a Project Accountant at Heyne Tillett Steel, you will play a crucial role in the development of a new project accounting and analysis role within a developing Finance team. You will be required to build key relationships with project leaders in order to help influence decision making. You will help develop new reporting to better understand performance of projects and ultimately enhance financial performance across the practice. Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will work closely with Directors, Engineers, and clients to maintain financial integrity throughout project lifecycles.

Key Responsibilities

Project Financial Management:

  • Monitor and manage project budgets, including monthly project profitability reporting, team meetings and preparation of ad-hoc reports for team leaders as necessary.
  • Collaborate with consultants, internal legal department and project managers to manage risks and cash flows for each specific project, mitigated any financial risk as best as possible
  • Overseeing monthly revenue recognition calculations of the company as a whole (£22m annual revenue)
  • Report on monthly utilisation targets and provide analysis on variances
  • Continued development of project analysis within CMAP to provide managers better insights and live updates to make better commercial decisions

Invoicing / Credit Control:

  • Managing two director teams you will be responsible for around £7m of annual revenue
  • Prepare client invoices using CMAP, ensuring accuracy and adherence to contract terms.
  • Handle project queries regarding budgets, expenditure and timesheet allocations.
  • Implement credit control measures to ensure timely payment of invoices within agreed terms
  • Working with external debt collectors and solicitors where necessary

Financial Management:

  • Ownership of revenue recognition numbers during Audit
  • Ownership and development of the current bad debt write off and provision process.
  • Perform reconciliations of all financial data to maintain accuracy in both accounting and project management software's (Xero and CMAP).
  • Conduct internal financial management, administration, and reporting tasks such as cash flow management
  • Utilize and improve process and reporting where possible using the latest technology available

Qualifications and Skills:

  • AAT qualified, ACCA/CIMA student, or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance
  • Proven experience in project accounting or revenue accounting within the construction/engineering industry.
  • Proficiency in Xero or similar accounting software and/or CMAP project management software
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail, including advance excel experience
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic team environment.
  • Commitment to upholding professional standards and ethical practices.

About the role:  

 

We are currently looking for a Finance Controller to join our team. This is a varied role, reporting into the Finance Director, working alongside the company Directors and managing a mostly newly recruited team of four. The responsibilities need to be more about managing and overseeing however maintaining a willingness to still be hands on when required. There also needs to be a focus on the improvement of processes, systems and partnering with engineering teams as well as being involved with general operational system and process improvements. The right candidate will need to be enthusiastic and proactive with experience of managing, mentoring and developing a finance team. The candidate will be a qualified accountant.

 

Key Relationships: Finance Director and The Directors 

 

Role:  

 

+ Manage finance operations including a Management Accountant, an Assistant Management Accountant, a Finance Administrator and a to-be recruited Credit Controller

+ Management reporting – standard financial statements as well as specific performance metrics on revenue, costs, and staff efficiency

+ Cash flow forecasting – including working with the Finance Director to align the cash flow forecasting tool with historical information from Xero. Assisting the Finance Director to develop P&L and balance sheet forecasts

+ Calculation of bank covenant compliance and reporting to banks for review

+ Reviewing the inputs and outputs for the outsourced payroll function

+Managing staff pension scheme

+ Day to day financial management of property-owning entities including reporting to lenders on covenant compliance

+ Review VAT returns and prepare quarterly corporation tax calculations

+ Process management and change implementation of new systems and suggesting new ways of working

+ Working with external consultants and bank management – annual financial audit, R&D reclaim, pensions advice, bank, etc.

+ Enhancing financial controls with various disciplines to be implemented including reconciliations, journal entries, data checks with other systems and management in Xero, sign-off of on sales ledger statements, summaries, credit notes and refunds

+ Approving staff expenses, checking credit cards and payments

+ Ad-hoc director and finance team projects

+ Suggesting and implementing sustainable practices for business partnering with practice staff including systems for managing information requests from practice staff

+ Staff/Director life and income protection insurances, company private healthcare scheme and assisting in annual Professional Indemnity renewal

 

The ideal candidate:

 

+ 4 / 5  years post qualified as a chartered accountant (ICAEW, ACCA or similar)

+ Demonstrable experience working for UK high growth, small and medium sized entities.  Experience within time-charging professional services businesses especially within creative practices would be very welcome

+ Thrives in a high-growth environment

+ Track record of implementing changes in the financial infrastructure of businesses

+ Experience of using CMAP and Xero systems will be a bonus
