The new turret is completed and installed at the Battersea Arts Centre, which brings the work at roof level to near completion.
Working with Haworth Tompkins architects, HTS have been involved in the refurbishment works in a separate part of the building since 2012. After the fire in the Grand Hall, we quickly developed a temporary steel retention structure to stabilise the main gable walls of the Grand Hall, working closely with a contractor specialising in dangerous sites.
The design of the new roof truss structures have been developed to accommodate a much larger arrangement of theatre tech equipment, access and acoustic performance. The new steel truss structures also utilised an innovative bearing pad design, more commonly associated with bridge design, to ensure the increased weight of the roof did not over load the existing masonry buttresses of the Grand Hall structure.
