The new 154m2 education and community centre sits adjacent to the Grade II* listed windmill, the last remaining tower mill in central London. The project has been funded by Lambeth Council and was initiated by Friends of Windmill Gardens; a charity focused on preserving the building’s rich heritage. The project forms part of our wider social value programme, and all work on the project was undertaken on a pro-bono basis.
- The structure is formed from a low-rise pitched roof and Douglas fir frame with tapered columns
- The building compliments the blackened tone of the windmill with dark weatherboard cladding and mock-slate roof tiling
- The structure is book-ended by two gable walls in a black brick to further reference the neighbouring tower
- To provide high-levels of natural light, the roof is punctuated with feature skylights while a series of bi fold glazed doors open out directly to the surrounding park area.
