Kelly challenged why engineered timber is rarely used in commercial developments and gave some recent project examples illustrating appropriate use. Kelly also presented an update on our in-house HTS research which investigates composite use of timber element, making timber more viable for office building solutions. The research is currently in the testing phase, undertaken in partnership with City University, London.
Highlights of the presentation included our projects Lower James Street with HaleBrown Architects, the recently completed timber atrium at The Import Building and The Old Gramophone Works, a new timber framed refurbishment to a former factory designed to maximise office space, both with Studio RHE.
Speakers included Gary Whitechurch, Studio RHE, Rupert Scott, TRADA and Eva Long, Glavloc Building Systems.
