Grange St Martins receives planning

Grange St Martins has received planning permission from Camden Council!

Working alongside Orms Architects for our client Globalgrange Hotels Ltd (Grange St Martins), the Grade II* Lethaby Building is being redeveloped to provide a 427-key hotel alongside restaurants, shops, lecture halls, a spa and co-working and conference space. The Red Lion building, originally constructed in the 1960s, will be extended vertically and laterally, creating additional hotel space. Two adjoining new build structures will complete the hotel. A new residential building will also be constructed to the north of the site.

Featuring two large, below-ground and column free event spaces, a new deep basement will be built across the majority of the site. Deep underpinning of the listed Lethaby Building footings will enable the excavation of the new basement. The existing site presents a number of complex constraints including a live Crossrail tunnel running along the southern edge of the site.

Commenting on the application, planning officers said ‘[Grange St Martins] represents a high-quality design which significantly improves the experience of the urban block from the street’, adding that the works to the Lethaby Building ‘represent a sympathetic restoration, bringing the building into its optimum viable use’.
