International Women's Day - Carmel Lennon

To celebrate International Women’s Day this Sunday we are profiling some of the amazing women in our office.

Carmel Lennon joined Heyne Tillett Steel in January 2018, becoming an Associate and heading up our civil engineering team in April 2019. Since leading the team Carmel has raised the profile of our civils work, winning new and exciting transport, public realm and flood risk projects, as well as doubling the size of the team.

Having worked on a diverse range of projects throughout her career including residential schemes, masterplans, public realm design, highways works and transport planning, Carmel is passionate about designing spaces that improve the lives of the communities that will use those spaces. She loves getting stuck in at early stages of projects to try and steer the design towards the most sustainable solutions, in particular integrating sustainable drainage into buildings and landscaping.

Carmel is currently working on Digbeth Masterplan which is creating a clear vision and identity for the area whilst respecting its heritage and culture; detailed design for a new public realm space at Shoreditch Village Phase II, undertaking swept path analysis to inform the layout of street furniture, and the revitalisation of the A21 corridor with muf architecture/art

When asked about International Women's Day Carmel said: “Starting out in engineering, I was very lucky to have a fantastic female mentor. Now in my role at HTS, I cherish the opportunities that I have to mentor young female engineers both in the civils team and in the wider company. This is one of my favourite aspects of my job.”
