Planning approved for Millennium Bridge House

We are excited to announce that Millennium Bridge House has gained planning approval from the City of London Corporation.

Occupying a prominent location along the Thames Embankment, the existing building will be sustainably refurbished to provide 30,000m² of low carbon commercial and retail space alongside a new publicly accessible roof terrace. The surrounding outdoor areas will be carefully redesigned to create vibrant public realm and will revitalise a key section of the Embankment, bringing it back into public use. Once complete, the landmark building for clients Angelo Gordon and Beltane Asset Management will provide unparalleled views to the river, St Paul’s and the City.

Najib Sheeka, HTS Senior Associate said: ‘With the current scheme keeping approximately 80% of the existing structure we are able to save 3500TCO2e. The all-timber feature kite roof has also saved 340TCO2e (10% of overall development) compared to a steel frame option, leading to overall structural embodied carbon of 95kgCO2e/m2 for the development.

We have also been able to push the original design to have minimal strengthening to the existing structure, resulting in a highly efficient structural design that underlines the strong environmental credentials of the project.’
