Plans for new gallery quarter at Cromwell Place

Proposals are being developed for a new gallery district opposite the Natural History Museum in west London.

Working with architects Buckley Gray Yeoman, HTS has been appointed to provide structural advice to transform a group of existing buildings into a new, innovative gallery hub and ‘world-class art market destination’ in the heart of South Kensington.

HTS has drawn on experience gained in recent developments at French Railways House and Howick Place, where the practice was responsible for creating new gallery spaces within historic buildings. If consented by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, HTS would work with the design team to convert five listed buildings into a new centre for galleries. The new designs would create 16 exhibition spaces varying in size from 400 to 3,000 sq ft as well as offices, viewing rooms and art storage spread over 35,000 sq ft.

The new gallery quarter adjoining Exhibition Road would build upon and complement the rich cultural heritage of the area, with neighbouring institutions including the renowned Natural History Museum and V&A Museum.
