The HTS Highland Fling! Scotland 2017

This year we headed up to the Scottish Lowlands for our first HTS summer trip in the UK.

Spirits were high as we set off up the East Coast Main Line in an entire carriage, the first booking of its kind for Virgin Trains!

We disembarked in Edinburgh, quickly heading to our coach and managing to catch a glimpse of the ‘city of shifting light’ as we made our way to the Falkirk Wheel, a unique rotating boat lift which uses Archimedes' principles to carry caissons with a combined weight of 500 tonnes.

Then on to The Kelpies where Tim Burton of SH Structures met us for an insider’s view of the world’s largest equine sculpture - standing at 30 metres high, with 2400 tonnes of steel-reinforced concrete foundations. At our final engineering viewpoint and UNESCO World Heritage site, The Forth Bridge, we received a detailed history from enthusiastic bridge advocate Frank Hay.

As the day came to an end, the HTS team began to warm-up for a night of ‘traditional’ Cèilidh dancing within the castle walls of 14th century, Duns Castle. Early in the morning we regrouped for the HTS Highland Games, where it all went a bit ‘Tatties o’wer the side’!
