HTS were commissioned by Channing School in 2010 to raise the quality of the existing sports and performing arts facilities. The main focus of the scheme centres on the demolition of the existing “New Hall” building enabling the construction of a new sports hall, sixth form centre and performing arts building.
In 2012 the package was divided into two phases of design and construction, with the sports hall and sixth form centre comprising the first phase of the work completed in March 2015.Working together with the architects Buckley Gray Yeoman, HTS have developed a building that maintains a high specification of finishes highlighting the structure of the space.
Exposed steel roof members with triangulated Macalloy cable ties emphasise the roof construction to both the sixth form centre and sports hall and allow students to appreciate the engineering involved in the creation of uninterrupted spaces.
Within the lower floors of the sixth floor centre exposed fair faced concrete slabs with integrated lighting create clean ceiling soffits, increase the floor to ceiling heights and improve thermal mass to aid the buildings natural ventilation system.
