0799 - Highgate School Garner Roof Extension

Highgate, London

This project involved full refurbishment of a 1980s educational building, and the provision of a new 200 square meter roof extension and an existing 3 storey building.

The works included the removal of an existing timber frame pitched roof and the construction of a new lightweight steel frame, providing a new 4th floor and roof.

The existing building is generally constructed using loadbearing blockwork and in-situ RC waffle slabs. Due to the new extension significant consideration was given to disproportionate collapse, and strengthening provided where required in order to achieve modern building regulation requirements.

This project follows our involvement in the successful completion of the neighbouring Charter Building.
