Adjacent to the Grand Union canal, close to Ladbroke Grove, this site was formerly both a paint factory and gramophone record works. It contains a collection of buildings of varying age and construction, the oldest dating back to 1930s. This Phase includes the extension of the original Old Gramophone Works building.
The proposals consist of two new six storey building built over and around an existing two storey plus basement RC frame. The original frame was designed for extensions which did not come to fruition and so, by proposing a new timber framed extension this capacity can be used to its full extent to maximise office space.
A steel transfer deck is proposed above the existing roof slab with a new glulam frame on an 8x6m grid over, with CLT floors spanning between secondary beams. New RC cores will cut through the existing structure, with CLT walls extending above the existing roof level.
