This is a mixed use development of up to eight storeys in height which covers the majority of a city block and provides 270 new apartments. The site is located in Streatham, London adjacent to Streatham Hill rail station and has a number of existing historic buildings which have been demolished. The facade of the Streatham ‘Megabowl’ which was originally an Art Deco theatre has been retained, restored and incorporated into the scheme.
The development includes approximately 190,000 sqft of residential units mixed between private and affordable use, there is 13,500 sqft of retail accommodation at the lower floors and a community theatre building to the rear. A new basement covers a large proportion of the site which is used for plant spaces and car parking. The structure is a concrete frame supported from piled foundations. At the upper levels steelwork is used to help form the pitched facades. Due to its size the structure is spilt into four distinct areas to allow for thermal expansion.
