The project consists of three interconnecting buildings housing five levels of teaching space, double height galleries, social learning areas, a library and a restaurant above and within a site wide basement with a total area of 80,000sq ft. The site further features an elliptical debating chamber and a 250 seat auditorium (with continuous 20m diameter space).
An exposed RC flat slab on a 9m by 9m grid will form the super-structure for the 72m main teaching block, with various overhanging and transfers structures resulting in the ground floor having only two internal columns.
A lightweight truss/space frame roof over the social learning space created a 30m wide column free first floor and creates the aesthetic profile in line with the architect’s vision.
The project is expected to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating.
